Cleveland Browns Schedule Breakdown: Quarter 1

Cleveland Browns Schedule Breakdown: First Quarter

First of all to start this we will not be looking into the preseason as the last time we won that thing we went 0-16 so I am praying for 0-4 honestly, and I am sure that would fire Baker up even more, if that is even possible at this point.

Week 1: Home vs Tennessee Titans.

Marcus Mariota comes to town with what seems like half a throwing arm coming off last season, and with a head coach that didn’t realize he had Derrick Henry until Week 14 last year so I am feeling confident about this one. With Mike Vrabel coming in with a very questionable QB room, granted their offensive line does come with left tackle Taylor Lewan who will bow and arrow any opposing member of a team (cough cough Josh Norman), this roster does not stack up talent wise to the Browns. I am sure with all the new assets we have accumulated it will be a learning curve of “Hey Odell remember how Eli just kind of threw soft passes, yeah I am gonna just beam them at you so get ready.” Browns take this one at home with a should be easy W.

Week 2: MNF Away vs NY Jets

Will this be Dilly Dilly time part two? Will Tyrod Taylor watch in disgust from the passenger seat (even though that technically is with Los Angeles now), will Carlos Hyde have another kid? Stay tuned! But in all seriousness this will be interesting matchup as we have Mayfield vs Darnold again on primetime, we will also see Odell back in NY (not the Giants but still its something I think), and the Browns defense will take on their old buddy Leveon Bell, granted this defense is entirely new since he last played. The Jets made a fair amount of moves, like the Browns, this offseason and could that correlate to success, I am leaning no on this one. Adam Gase, Head Coach of the Jets, has been very public about not wanting Leveon after they paid a ransom to get him, plus a fired GM after the draft this smells of good ol dysfunction, something us Browns fans are very used to seeing. I lean with Browns win here as Darnold still seems turnover prone and Baker likes the spotlight, plus Leveon is going to a lesser offensive line than what he had with the Steelers. Browns take this one away in close margin.

Week 3: SNF Home vs LA Rams

Back to back prime games, here we go! Now this should serve as a sort of reality check for the Browns here facing the NFC Champions at home in the big lights. While I believe Sean McVay has saved Jared Goff’s career (yes he is young but that first year was rough) I do find him to be a competent QB, however with Todd Gurley having the knees of an 80 year old man and the Rams electing to not resign CJ Anderson there is some hope here. Remember that the Browns were one of the worst teams stopping the run last year and if Todd Gurley is just bluffing us all it could be a long game here as we get the ball run down our throats. The Rams defense is aging with Aqib Talib, Clay Matthews, and Eric Weddle, there is still some scary guys mostly being Aaron Donald who is just a beast. I think this one comes down to a field goal or so and I think the Rams take this one on the road from the Browns.

Week 4: At Baltimore

The rematch we have all been waiting for is finally upon us, with that Week 17 matchup falling to Baltimore this one will definitely be circled on Baker Mayfield’s calendar. Now opening up the AFC North matchup on the road here will prove some things about this team and I do not assume this to be a win by any means as this Ravens roster did lose talent and Lamar is just horrible in my opinion I find this to be a field goal game, now the Ravens have Tucker who is definitely a top 3 kicker in the league and Greg Joseph or Austin Seibert are no locks here for the points that Tucker can give. I am giving this one to the Ravens by a field goal. Lamar is still horrible though.
